Fly Fishing for Migratory Tarpon in Apalachicola

The Tarpon fishing off Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and Mexico Beach has been gangbusters for the last few weeks as the true Migration has really been moving through our waters.  We have been seeing in excess of a hundred fish per day!!  The Tarpon have really been eating well for how clear the water is!!  The water is as clear as I’ve seen it in years which can make it difficult to feed the fish just like the locations in the Florida Keys and Boca Grande.  These fish don’t care though they Haven’t seen a fly in over a month of their migration they are chewing!  We have been catching up to 7 fish daily and feeding many more!  I love this time of year!  Here are some pics of a few fish from the other morning.  Tight Lines

June 8, 2011 in Florida Tarpon Report

In the last 5 days there has been a substantial beginning to the migratory Tarpon push through the Carrabelle and Apalachicola waters.  These fish have really been eating I’d say every fifth fish has taken a swing at the fly!!!  Awesome days on the water and it will only get better as the real heavy push is yet to come!  We had some weather issues till around 2 o’clock yesterday and still managed to jump 5 in the last 2 hours of the day!!!  These fish are hungry! Fly Fishing for Tarpon in Florida

May 4, 2011 in Florida Tarpon Report

Salted Flats Fly Fishing has been Apalachicola Florida Tarpon Fishing for  week now.  The weather has been a bit tough with some heavy winds and some clouds.  That’s to be expected this early in the season.  The will be settling into a summer time patter here in a week or so.  It’s very early to be seeing here in the Panhandle of Florida but do the warm weather the water temp is 78 degrees.  Yesterday I saw several really Big Tarpon one of which weighed WELL over 200lbs.  Managed to catch MY first TARPON for the year in excess of 100lbs.  Great early start to season I look forward to all winter!!
