Jumping Tarpon off Carrabelle, Florida

Jumping Tarpon off Carrabelle, Florida

Late June and early July have proved themselves to be a great time to come and sight cast to monster Tarpon off the coast of Carrabelle, Apalachicola, and Alligator Point, FL.  We have been experiencing high numbers of eats (bites) per day with and average of 4-7 fish caught.  This continues to happen all the way into August!  We have not yet experienced much rain this summer so the water off the Forgotten Coast of Florida continues to be Gin clear! Fly Fishing for Migratory Tarpon off the Florida Panhandle

June 8, 2011 in Florida Tarpon Report

In the last 5 days there has been a substantial beginning to the migratory Tarpon push through the Carrabelle and Apalachicola waters.  These fish have really been eating I’d say every fifth fish has taken a swing at the fly!!!  Awesome days on the water and it will only get better as the real heavy push is yet to come!  We had some weather issues till around 2 o’clock yesterday and still managed to jump 5 in the last 2 hours of the day!!!  These fish are hungry! Apalachicola Tarpon Fishing

May 22, 2011 in Florida Tarpon Report

Finally getting rid of the full moon and the Tarpon are moving back onto the flats after spawning period offshore.  A cold front pushed through the Panhandle of Florida for the last five days cooling the water temps to 72 degrees.  I observed the fish using the cooling temps as an excuse to push offshore a few days ahead of the full moon.  This in turn left the waters of Apalachicola with very few numbers of fish pushing the flats in the last five days rather than just a couple of days as a normal spawning period would.  Yesterday was the first day to see fish move back in and they came with great numbers!!  We saw over a hundred yesterday but the water was still a bit to cold to bring them eat.  Today has turned out to be a whole new ballgame, the water temps were around 76 degrees and the fish were aggressively tracking and eating our fly’s!!  I fished out of Carrabelle this afternoon for a few hours and saw over 60 fish and fed 1!!  I’ts summer hear on the waters of Apalachicola, Carrabelle, and Cape San Blas and the Tarpon are hear in big numbers!!!   Tight Lines

Floriada Panhandle Fly Fishing for Tarpon

May 6, 2011 in Florida Tarpon Report

May is a special month hear in the Florida Panhandle the cold fronts really start to loose there momentum and the Gulf of Mexico’s northern waters really start to warm.  With these warming water come the Tarpon.  I’ve been seeing a few more fish every day.  This afternoon I made it out on the water for the last few hours of the rising tide and was very pleased to have seen the #’s of fish I did.  I counted over 30 in 2 hours which this time of year is awesome.  I even saw a good number of groups of 2 to 3 fish swimming together in the direction that our migratory fish swim during June and July. A GREAT early season afternoon! Tight Lines
